True Driving Cost, operated at truedrivingcost.com ("the Site"), is committed to transparency about how data is handled. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected, how it is used, and your rights.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
The Site's calculator runs entirely in your browser. Vehicle selections, parameter inputs, and calculation results are processed locally on your device and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers. We do not collect:
- Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
- Vehicle selections or calculator inputs
- Financial information
- Location data (beyond what standard web analytics may infer from IP addresses)
3. Information That May Be Collected
3.1 Hosting
The Site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may collect standard web server logs, including IP addresses, browser type, referring pages, and pages visited. This data is governed by Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
3.2 Google Analytics
The Site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID: G-PXREBEHXWE), a web analytics service provided by Google LLC. Google Analytics collects anonymized usage data including pages visited, time spent on pages, browser type, device type, screen resolution, approximate geographic location (derived from IP address), and referring website. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to distinguish unique users and sessions. This data is processed by Google in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. You may opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
3.3 Third-Party API Requests
When you use the calculator, your browser makes requests directly to the FuelEconomy.gov API (operated by the U.S. Department of Energy). These requests are subject to the U.S. government's privacy practices. True Driving Cost does not proxy, log, or store these API requests.
4. Cookies
The Site does not set first-party cookies. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga and _ga_*) to distinguish unique users, track sessions, and compile aggregate usage statistics. These cookies expire after 2 years and 24 hours, respectively. The hosting provider (Cloudflare) may also use cookies for security and performance purposes. You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings or by using the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.
5. Data Security
The Site is served over HTTPS to protect data in transit. Since calculator data is processed locally in your browser and not stored on our servers, there is no server-side database of user information to secure.
6. Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Changes take effect upon posting to this page. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
